Chronology
The family is invited to spend the entire weekend in a lonely home in the countryside, but as the weekend progresses, they realize that the family that invited them has a dark side. Blumhouse Productions has been a major force in the horror genre since 2007’s Paranormal Activity became a global sensation. The story is inspired by the experiences of Christian Tafdrup, director of the original Danish film Speak No Evil (2022). He had befriended a Dutch couple on holiday in Tuscany with him.
In this remake, the nationalities of the two families have been changed to American and British
wife. Although the Dutch were a bit awkward socially, the two couples got along very well, and upon returning home, Tafdrup received an invitation from a Dutch family to come to the Netherlands. He considered it for a moment, but decided that it would feel weird to stay with people he didn’t really know; his story for the film came about when he unleashed his darkest fantasies about what might have happened if he had accepted (although he insisted that the original Dutch couple had never given off bad vibes). In the bathroom, when he washes his eye, he has a subconjunctival hemorrhage in his left eye, in the next scene his eye.

It didn’t make you as angry as the first one
I just watched the new version of Speak No Evil and in typical Americanized fashion, all they had to do was change the ending, which made the original look unbelievably horrifying. I didn’t hate the 2024 version, but it’s not nearly as exciting as the first one. It didn’t make you want to strangle all the Actors like the first one. And it didn’t make you feel anything for the characters like the first one.

As much as you can hate the stupid naivety or pure evil of the characters, you still felt something for all of them in the first one. First 10/10 second 6/10. And that’s being generous because it wasn’t as terrible as it could have been, but really watch the original if you really want a good movie experience that leaves you with a sense of relief instead of, well, that happened. The last season or "What We Do in the Shadows" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
