Today, the time has finally come – Lumion 2023 is now live!
Lumion Pro Review With a completely redesigned renderer, Lumion 2023 marks the beginning of a new chapter. Back in October 2022, we discovered ray tracing in Lumion, which was a huge undertaking that meant we had to completely rebuild our rendering engine from the ground up. Lumion 2023 is different from any previous version of the software. By completely redesigning our renderer to include ray tracing in addition to rasterization, we can now offer a platform that will improve faster and easier than ever before. Highlights of Lumion Pro The new Lumion 2023 rendering engine Since the founding of Lumion, the idea that 3D rendering should be accessible to every architect and designer, regardless of their technical experience, has driven us forward. Our goal has always been to provide a fast, simple and intuitive way to visualize the future.
Ultimately, it’s not about the technology itself, but how it’s used to serve a higher purpose
To empower architects to create without inhibition or hesitation and showcase designs that transcend form and function to win hearts and minds. In many ways, the release of Lumion 2023 represents a complete change in the fundamentals of the software. Powered by a hybrid rendering engine that works with rasterization and ray tracing, Lumion 2023 helps you achieve the highest quality results regardless of hardware. So if you don’t have a ray tracing graphics card, you can still see a significant increase in Lumion’s rendering quality by using advanced rasterization technology for all your building architecture, landscape or interior design. Whether it’s developing a design, exploring ideas, or presenting your vision for the future, this goal is entirely up to you. Introducing Ray Tracing v0.9 Unlike rasterization, ray tracing doesn’t need any clever tricks to mimic reality—it just calculates the way light behaves in the real world.
See your design in a new light
With the effect turned on, your renderings will automatically include more realistic indirect lighting, off-screen space reflections, drop shadows, and more. The new Lumion ray tracing effect lets you control the number of samples and bounces, giving you more control over the final result. The new Lumion 2023 lighting system opens up a world of possibilities for a more natural display. Reflections now work automatically whenever the ray tracing effect is enabled. With ray tracing, curved surfaces now show accurate reflections, eliminating the need for reflection planes. In the first implementation, the ray tracing effect will not support reflections from glass or water materials.

Make your surfaces real. It’s often the smallest details that help you express your design most effectively. Reflections on the facade. Light passing through the curtain. When the materials are real, your design comes to life. With the ability to refine these details with just a few clicks, you can create a visualization experience that speaks to all the senses.
The following options are available in the material editor in Lumion 2023
Improved Material Editor The Material Editor has been significantly improved to give you more control over material settings. Other material properties Lumion 2023’s raster workflow allows you to control the spread below the surface. Gives objects a translucent effect, allowing light to penetrate the object and diffuse subtly. You can also affect the shade of diffused light by assigning a color to the material map.
